Actress Sienna Miller is to marry boyfriend Rhys Ifans after his third proposal, according to reports.

The star is said to be planning a summer wedding with the 39-year-old actor, who first asked for Miller’s hand in marriage in August by sending her a cryptic message in Welsh, his first language, which read: “Marry the Misfit.”

He proposed for a second time in December at her 26th birthday party by hiding an engagement ring in a pile of gifts.

But it proved to be third time lucky for Ifans after Miller accepted his proposal earlier this month.

The couple, who have been dating for a year, is reportedly eager to keep their forthcoming nuptials low-key.

Obviously, Charlize Theron the actress needs no introduction. But Charlize Theron the producer — who has, in a brief period of time, helped create some extremely serious-minded low-budget films — feels in many ways like a unique individual, distinct from her more glamorous alter ego. The evidence is on display in Sleepwalking, a stark indie film about a troubled mother (Theron) who abandons her young daughter (AnnaSophia Robb) in the care of her younger brother (Nick Stahl). What's most amazing about the film is that much of the heavy lifting is done by the young Robb, familiar to audiences from more kid-friendly fare like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We caught up with Theron and Robb, now 14, on a recent visit to New York.

Charlize, is it true that one of the key reasons for your agreeing to produce this film was AnnaSophia's performance?
Theron: In part. First of all, I had really liked the material, and Nick Stahl had read the script, and he wanted to play the brother. But we all realized that the part of the young daughter was going to be a huge part of this film. And we knew it was going to be very hard to find an actress of that age — this was very adult material, and it carries a lot of emotional weight. I didn't know if I would be able to see a film like this through to the end if we couldn't find that person. Then I met with my friend Stephen Hopkins, who had directed me in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. He had just made The Reaping with AnnaSophia and said she was amazing and that I should take a look at her. So I met with her and spent a couple of days playing around with the material. And we wound up not looking at anyone else for the part.

AnnaSophia, how did it feel to basically have to carry a film with such weighty subject matter?
Robb: It was hard, but I'm actually happy that this was my first film with this kind of heavy subject matter. And I appreciated this really safe environment that Charlize had created. Now I feel more comfortable with this sort of thing.

How did you prepare for it?
Robb: After I read the script, I talked a lot with Charlize. We had a lot of conversations over the phone, talking about the characters. And then once you get on set, that's what the whole world is about: read-throughs, talking about the characters. When you're on set, it's important actually to be able to break off from that at the end of the day and leave it behind.

So, is it safe to say that you're not in the Daniel Day-Lewis mold of living with your character day in and day out?
Robb: Obviously, I respect him a lot as an actor. But I'm not sure that's the right approach for me. I don't want to totally become my character, especially at such a young age. Acting is not the only thing. I need to have a life and enjoy it. Also it's important I think to have the imagination to create this person, and to be able to come back at the end of the day to who I really am.

Charlize, you started off producing with Monster, with which this film shares some similarities. Does being a producer on a film, especially a low-budget one like this, make it harder to also act in it?
Theron: Not really. I don't think producing makes anything harder. I don't really compartmentalize. It's all part of the same thing for me. There's an incredibly creative element to a producer's job. There has to be. I couldn't go up and start working six weeks before production if there wasn't. It's a huge amount of work, a huge amount of responsibilities, a huge amount of time you have to invest. But it feels effortless to me — that is to say, it feels like part of the whole creative thread of making the film.

How would you characterize yourself as a producer?
Theron: I don't know. I dislike hard work, but I feel blessed to be part of something creatively satisfying. I think I was spoiled on Monster, to be honest with you. There were no set rules about what I was supposed to do and not do. In the end, it was all about being truthful to the story, and I had to protect that. And that set the bar for me, in a way. Now I want it to be always that way. Because otherwise it's too much work. You spend three years of your life waking up at four in the morning.

AnnaSophia, you've done a lot of very different movies in such a short time. What's the best advice someone has given you about showbiz so far?
Theron: It definitely didn't come from me… [laughs]
Robb: You get different advice for different films. But a certain someone, who may or may not be in this room, did say that in the end it's all about telling a good story and doing good work that stays with people. It's just really that simple. —Bilge Ebiri

A lucky US bidder beat 38 other people in an online auction, to claim the white Narciso Rodriguez size-4 bias-cut full-length silk gown adorned with crystals.

Proceeds from the sale will go to the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. The charity aims to help impoverished children and their families in South Africa, focusing particularly on those suffering from AIDS and HIV.

Charlize is not the only Hollywood actress to recently raise money for charity via an online auction. Recently, a fan paid $40,100 to meet Scarlett Johansson at the premiere of her new movie He’s Just Not That Into You'.

The South African-born actress recently became an American and admits she cannot wait to vote.

She tells WENN, "I looked at the candidates when I couldn't vote. I've lived in this country for a long time now and I feel very much at home here, so I definitely have an opinion and I'm definitely watching the race very closely."

"I'm a huge Barack supporter. I like what this guy has to say. I know there's this whole question of his experience, but I think, when you look at all the great leaders that we've had, I'd go with the guy with the least experience but the one that actually wants to cause some real change."

MTV preps Paris Hilton reality series

The high-profile hotel heiress, who parlayed sex-tape notoriety into A-list celebrity with The Simple Life on Fox, will appear in a 10-episode series tentatively titled Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.

In the new reality show, 20 contestants will live in a house and compete for the chance to learn how to live the celebrity life from Ms. Hilton. Viewers will be able to vote on potential contestants via a Web site ParisBFF.com.

Production is set to begin in May, with the series scheduled to air in the fourth quarter.

MTV’s ratings have been on the rise on the strength of semi-reality shows such as The Hills and competition shows such as Making the Band, A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila and Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew.

The network thinks its latest addition will bring more heat to the channel, which once was in danger of becoming passé with young viewers.

Ms. Hilton, whose show moved from Fox to cable’s E! before it was canceled last year, became the subject of almost constant reporting after a series of traffic incidents led to her being jailed in Los Angeles last year. The coverage was so over-the-top that some news organizations declared a moratorium on publishing stories about her.

“It’s undeniable that the world is always talking about Paris Hilton, and the same could be said about MTV,” said Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV Networks Music Channels. “Paris is one of the most searched icons on the Web and has been the focus of everyone’s attention from TMZ to Forbes. Now MTV will reveal the life of Paris, turn her fans into friends and see what it takes to get close to one of the world’s most well-known personalities.”

The show comes from Ish Entertainment, the new production company set up by former VH1 executive Michael Hirschorn. Mr. Hirschorn and Stella Stolper will be executive producers along with Ms. Hilton.

Now that Nicole Richie is busy being a mom, the former "Simple Life" star threw out the challenge to 20 men and women who will compete in the MTV reality show to be her new "BFF" (best friend forever). The contestants are set to live in a house where they'll learn how to live like a celebrity from none other than Paris herself. Besides her role as their teacher, the 27-year-old socialite will also serve as an executive producer on the series, which is set to begin production in Los Angeles in May with an eye on a fall premiere.

Jamie, Britney's conservator, had apparently told the "Toxic" singer to stay away from nightclubs or hang out with the paparazzi. However, the tabloid princess is finding the restrictions too confining.

A friend of the music star reveals a text message sent to her by the star:

"I'm so bored. I hate my life."

The source continues, "She also sent a text saying, 'They keep taking my phone away. If my dad knows I'm talking to you he's going to be upset.'"

"She seems to genuinely miss the craziness. Sad as it is, she loved that life."

Just heard from How I Met Your Mother cocreator Craig Thomas about the casting of one Ms. Britney Spears to play receptionist/comic foil Abby on episode 14 of HIMYM this season. He says, "We're thrilled to have Britney Spears on the show. Britney is an exciting new talent, and we can't wait for the world to meet her. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to check out this 'Internet' thing everyone is talking about." Ha!

Craig was also good enough to comment on the casting of a certain Scrubs favorite, saying, "We couldn’t be happier to have Sarah Chalke joining us to play a new love interest for Ted, Dr. Stella Zinman. Not only is Sarah smart, funny and charming, but we already know she looks damn good in a lab coat."

Funny, our Ms. Chalke made it big when she stepped into the Roseanne cast to replace Alicia Goranson, and it wasn't until the role of Elliot Reid on Scrubs came along that she shed the sobriquet of "Second Becky." Lucky for her, now that she's stepped in to replace Alicia Silverstone on Mother, "Second Dr. Stella Zinman" just doesn't have the same ring to it!

Pop star Britney Spears released a music video yesterday that features the singer as an animated superhero in a futuristic world.

The video was to premiere on BlackoutBall.com at 6:30 p.m. to accompany her latest single, "Break The Ice" – the third from her 2007 album Blackout.

The release of the video, along with an upcoming acting role on How I Met Your Mother, marks something of a comeback for Spears, 26, whose career has been sidelined by psychiatric problems and bitter child-custody battles.

Spears's record company said the video was made in South Korea in Japanese anime style. Last year, Spears released two singles from Blackout. It has sold more than two million copies worldwide, which pales in comparison to her heyday six years ago.

In other Britney news, a lawyer who claims to represent her has filed an appeal challenging the conservatorship that gave Spears's father control of her personal and business affairs. The document states that Spears was not given the minimum five-day notice required by California law when control is sought over a person's assets or estate.

Britney Spears is fighting the ruling that gives her father complete control of her estate and affairs until July.

The singer’s lawyer, Jon Eardley, is claiming that the conservatorship was granted without the necessary five days notice, and so is invalid, reports BBC News.

In early February, a California state court granted temporary conservatorship to James Spears until July, when the order will presumably be reviewed.

However, there is also some doubt as to whether Eardley can legitimately represent Spears as, under the rules of the conservatorship, the singer is unable to appoint her own legal personnel without the involvement of her father or his lawyer.

Spears has been in constant court battles since early January, when she refused to return her two children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

The stand-off resulted in two stays in a psychiatric hospital for Spears.

Spears - who will appear as doctor's receptionist Abby - is a huge fan of the show, and deemed a guest role in the series a perfect assignment at this juncture of her turbulent career.

Creator Craig Thomas admits he was ecstatic when Spears' representatives contacted him, and was left in no doubt he had made the right decision to recruit her when she turned up for a script reading - and impressed everyone present with her acting talent and enthusiastic approach.

He says: "Britney's people ended up coming to CBS and expressing interest in our show, and we were thrilled. 'Britney Spears watches our show!'

"They said she was looking for a small part on a funny show, and she checked out our show and liked it. They were really receptive to the idea of bringing Britney in and just doing a funny role for her. It all came together really quickly - it was kind of shocking.

"She seemed to have a great time, and we had a great time working with her. It was just like really a normal table read."

Spears will shoot her scenes this week, with the episode scheduled for broadcast on US cable channel CBS on March 24.

Britney pays £500,000 custody costs

Britney Spears has already spent a million dollars (£500,000) on legal fees in her child custody case and objects to paying half a million dollars to ex-husband Kevin Federline's lawyers, her lawyer has said.

Attorney Stacy Phillips told a Los Angeles court that Federline's lawyers are entitled to only about 150,000 to 175,000 dollars (£75,000-£87,000).

She also says Federline has the ability to pay his lawyers on his own.

Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan says the case is unusually complicated and all the billing is legitimate.

Commissioner Scott Gordon has not yet ruled on the matter and the hearing is continuing behind closed doors.

Britney Spears is struggling with the whole allowance and living at home with dad situation that has risen up and kept her somewhat in line in the last few weeks. The one time wild child of Hollywood has been stuck in her own private prison, but according to OK! Magazine, at least it has a really good view.
The magazine has this week that even though Britney Spears lives in a $7.2-million, 7,400-square-foot Mediterranean-style villa, but the troubled pop princess feels like a prisoner in her own mansion.
The article notes that for the last six weeks, her dad has essentially grounded Britney. “I’m so bored, I hate my life,” she text-messaged a friend on March 5. Britney's life used to consists of trips in and out of court while losing her sons. She also has had several ambulance rides and has been placed on a 5150 hold for a time being while doctors examined her.

Perhaps she needs a bit of time at home. OK! Promises a cover story and teases online that they will report from inside the home that has become Britney’s jail, and reveals the strict schedule her dad has established to keep Brit in line.

At Tuesday's table reading for her small appearance on the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, Britney Spears reportedly made such a good impression with producers that they are now thinking of adding her to the show as a semi-regular cast member.

In the episode, Brit plays the role of Abby, a receptionist at a dermatologist's office. Her endearing, sweet character falls head over heels in love with Ted, (Josh Radnor) who is desperate to have a tattoo removed.

After completing Tuesday's table reading, Brit heads back to work on Wednesday for rehearsals on the set and costume fittings. The actual episode tapes Friday night in L.A.

Lisa Marie Fights Back at “Vicious Personal Attack”

Lisa Marie Presley is frustrated and angry that her previously unannounced pregnancy has been turned into a reason of mockery at her expanding waistline and wishes to sue British newspaper the Daily Mail.

The daughter of music legend Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie Presley, is hurt that what was meant as a time of happiness for herself and her family turned into a situation where she had to defend herself against “vicious personal attack.”

Amid growing reports regarding her changing silhouette, Presley, 40, chose to reveal the real reason behind this – but she was not happy with the situation.

“After being the target all week of slanderous and degrading stories, horribly manipulated pictures and articles in the media, I have had to show my cards and announce under the gun and under vicious personal attack that I am in fact pregnant,” Presley wrote last Thursday on her MySpace Celebrity blog.

In the message titled “Confirmation under the gun,” she writes that she hopes all the tabloids will now back off and let her be. “It is unfortunate that I couldn't have announced something that is this much of a blessing and that has made us so incredibly happy under better circumstances,” the message continues.

Presley also found it within herself to apologize for the “contemptuous tone” of her writing and confessed that she had been “mortified” to see unflattering photos of herself.

Presley’s mortification also gives way to some litigation, People magazine is reporting. An article in British newspaper the Daily Mail seems to have angered her more than others, as it discusses her “unhealthy appetite” and how she “has gained weight like her father Elvis.”

Her lawyer, Simon Smith, issued a press release announcing the libel claim, saying: “My client is deeply upset and offended by this article, especially as it was widely published just as she and her family were meant to be celebrating her happy news.”

This is the first child for the singer-songwriter and her husband, guitarist and music producer Michael Lockwood, 46; they married in Japan in January 2006. Presley has two children, daughter Riley, 18, and son Benjamin, 15, with ex-husband Danny Keough.

If Kevin Federline can afford to tip a waitress two grand, he can pay his own legal fees, say lawyers for Britney Spears. Monday in a Los Angeles court, K-Fed pleaded poverty, saying his ex-wife should continue to pay his hefty law bill — $405,000 to be exact. In just four months, the acrimonious exes have racked up over a million dollars in lawyers' fees, all of which Brit is currently responsible for.

But Stacy Phillips, Britney's newest legal eagle, says that the once down-and-out Federline is more than capable of paying his own bills. "He needs to take responsibility for the diligent work being done on his behalf," she said.

Phillips told the court commissioner Federline should pay between $150,000 and $175,000 and claimed he omitted his $200,000 spousal- support checks from his earning declarations. Phillips also argued that Federline recently tipped a waitress $2,000 on a $365 bill, and has blown $20,000 on jewelry, phone calls and food while listing the charges as "business expenses."

Mark Vincent Kaplan, lawyer for Federline, says that Britney should not only keep signing his checks, but that the singer is actually getting a bargain. Said Kaplan: "If the court does not order [her] to pay, there cannot be a legal playing field. Our fees are far under the market level for the package you get."

He may be right. Spears' old law firm, Trope and Trope, charged her $630,000 for four months' work, while Federline's bill from Kaplan was about $250,000 less.

Jessica Alba learned a little something about acting “discipline” when she did that TV show that made her a star, James Cameron’s Dark Angel.

“Three-hour-long workouts, every day, for two years,” she says of the 2000-2002 sci-fi series that had her playing a super-buff super warrior, all curves and spandex.

Tough? Sure. But that was nothing compared to what she had to put herself through for her latest, The Eye.

She plays a blind violinist who has her sight restored, only to see dead people in addition to the living ones.

She had to be convincingly musical. She had to be convincingly blind.

“I've never done anything this hard in my life,” says Alba, 26.

“Every orchestra musician I talked with told me, ‘Oh, it’s the hardest instrument to play’ - and they were right.

“Everything was a challenge, from the positioning of the violin on my neck to bowing. And I’m having to learn to do this with my eyes closed!”

For the fourth Alba movie to come out in the past 12 months, she had to find a little prep time.

And not just to watch the 2002 Japanese J-horror film she was remaking, either.

“The directors (David Moreau and Xavier Palud) are huge classical music fans.

First off, they gave me all these Mozart and Beethoven CDs to listen to.

“Then, I looked at lots of tapes of (violinist) Anne-Sophie Mutter.

I picked up a lot of things from just watching her, the way she holds her head, her posture when she's holding the instrument, her bowing, the look she gets on her face. So passionate!

“Then, I took six months of violin lessons. That was the killer. Vibrato (a pulsating variation in pitch) just, oh, it gave me the hardest time.

“Then, I visited the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Braille Institute’s Los Angeles’ sight centre to learn about blindness, to observe.

“I met this great girl, Jessica, a blind student at Boston University, followed her for a long time. Blindness is not a limitation to her, not that I could tell. She was focused, meticulous, wants to be face to face with you when you talk. If she’s wearing sunglasses, you can’t even tell she’s blind. She speaks three languages and has a level of determination about her that just inspired me.”

All because she wanted to follow her thriller, Awake, and raunchy comedy, Good Luck Chuck, and superhero adventure, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, with a horror movie.

“I’m a fan of the genre,” she says.

“But not those movies where women are just victims, you know. Tortured or whatever. This is just a good old-fashioned ghost story, with a new twist. Scary!”

Alba’s frequent inclusion on lists such as People’s 50 Most Beautiful and Playboy, Maxim, E! and Stuff’s world’s sexiest and her determination to work all the time have made her an easy target of the resentful.

And critics. Many of her recent films haven’t earned the best reviews, prompting the Golden Raspberry Foundation to nominate her for three Razzies this year for her last three films.

But they - we – won’t have Alba to kick around much, soon.

She’s pregnant, and if nothing else that will cut back on her productivity.

“I don’t know if I’ll want to go straight back to work after having the baby, or not,” she says of the child she is expecting with Cash Warren.

“We really are just winging it. I have no plan, no idea how I’m going to work the career around this motherhood thing.

“I do know this, though. Whatever I choose to do, professionally, it’ll have to be something I’m so passionate about that I can’t not do it.”

The Eye opens in Australia this week.

Getting to grips with life: Writer and director Harmony Korine has been a key figure in independent cinema and art for the past decade

When Michael Jackson falls for Marilyn Monroe, she invites him to shack up with her, Little Red Riding Hood, Madonna and the Pope. Sounds like the start of a dirty joke, doesn't it? Actually, it's the premise of Mister Lonely, the latest movie from newly reformed American wild child auteur Harmony Korine.

It's a wacky romance that sees gentle Parisian Jacko impersonator (Diego Luna) ditch his lonely existence of boulevard busking and old folks' home gigs for a new life in a remote Scottish commune – entirely populated by fellow impersonators, including new friend 'Marilyn' (Samantha Morton). 'They are delusional, but I think they have a beautiful dream. A pure dream,' Korine tells me, dreamily. 'Sometimes the purest dreamers are the ones that get hurt most.'

It's hard to believe I'm talking to the same guy who, at the age of 19, wrote Kids (which was released three years later, in 1995). Korine's screenwriting debut, based on the true, meaningless, drug-fuelled, underage sex lives of shockingly young teens, starkly viewed childhood innocence during the Aids era as all but a sentimental myth.

Now 35, he's been through rehab and the tender, whimsical and sweet Mister Lonely is the surprising result. Creatively it feels like an indulgent, safe playground. Imagine Amy Winehouse ditches the drugs and records the Winnie The Pooh songbook. So, has this enfant terrible grown up – or regressed? 'Each of the films I've made reflects my mental state at the time,' he explains. 'Turning 30 wasn't a big thing for me; it was more like getting off the drugs. I had such a dark period in my life for eight or nine years. I didn't have any money, no place to live, no friends.'

Former girlfriend Chloë Sevigny has told how she left him over his heroin and methadone abuse. 'I didn't know if I was going to make another movie again – if I wanted to, or if I was capable of it. Then one day, I saw a small woman walking her invisible dog down the road. She told me it was time to make the movie. I took her word for it.'

Is he joking? It's hard to tell. Korine is no longer a child, but he's still ever the kidder. He takes things to such seriously bizarre extremes, the joke's often on him – whether it's a joke at all. There's dropping out of English at New York University after one term to become a professional tap dancer and the proposed adaptation of Ulysses starring Snoop Dogg. Then there's Fight, Harm, a movie where Korine says: 'I would walk around the streets and incite people to beat me up.

'My idea was to try and make a great American comedy, inspired by Buster Keaton's The General. A guy slips on a banana peel and cracks his head – it's funny, right? So I'd approach, say, a cab driver and smash his head in with a mandolin. But I forgot how short real fights are. I broke lots of bones and I just kept getting arrested. After my ninth fight, I spent two-and-a-half months in prison.'

Equally, it's hard to tell what the heck Mister Lonely is actually about. This is nothing new, as his undeniable low-budget masterpieces Gummo (1997) and Julien Donkey-Boy (1999) have already showed. Korine's non-sequential movies, with their freak-show characters and dreamy camera work, require a certain leap of faith by his followers as to this young auteur's genius. It's more the sense that his breathtaking personal vision 'works' as art, than anything more intellectual.

Take Mister Lonely. Some critics consider it to encapsulate the impossibility of establishing an authentic individuality in the new millennium; others think it is just profoundly silly. Korine couldn't care less: 'All I ever wanted to do with my movies is convey a certain feeling. An essence. Or a kind of ambience and tone. That's what I care about far more obviously than plot.'

So, is Korine saying Mister Lonely is a critique of our celebrity culture? dreams'I dunno,' he ponders. 'Interestingly, Little Red Riding Hood's character was originally Britney Spears. But then when we dressed her up it was like, man, she just looks like a normal slutty teenager! And I wanted these characters to be more like archetypes. It's not technically about Michael Jackson or any of the others – it's about the person that's impersonating them. It's about the person underneath.'

Ironically, this is where Korine himself hates to pry. I try exploring the concept and find it's toys-out-of-pram time. 'I don't really want to know why I do s*** to be honest with you. I don't see a shrink. I just want to live life. People often ask me for advice on how to get started making movies and I tell them to get into some kind of crazy illegal activity. Maybe rob a bank or something, because it tests you – and if you survive that, you have some good stories.' And I really don't think he's kidding. Beneath that dreamy surface, this enfant's still defiantly terrible.

"One producer told Ian it could be a potential disaster, but he laughed it off and said he was even willing to pay the insurance himself," says a film insider.

A MELBOURNE teenager has beaten thousands of computer nerds across the world to design singer Britney Spears's official MySpace page.

Jordan McGuire, 15, spent hours working on the layout, which Jive Records has uploaded on to the site.

The talented Montmorency Secondary College student heard about the competition through a friend and decided to give it a go.

"I have always liked graphics and I like Britney," he said, reluctantly admitting that he had a poster of her on his door.

"I think that it is really good that she is still singing when she has been getting so much criticism."

Jordan beat 28,135 Spears fans to take out the honour.

He's already received 100 accolades on the MySpace page, which is viewed by thousands daily.

Jordan said although he knew the competition would be tough, he had always been confident because he liked the way his entry turned out.

Until a few weeks ago, I considered myself a Britney casualist - I only casually cared about her. I held no animosity towards her, but passively ignored her. However, I'll admit I was bothered when Britney was all over the news on Jan. 4 when I was looking for television coverage on the Iowa caucuses and kept running into her. At the time, Britney was being rushed to a hospital. It bothered me that this was on CNN and MSNBC when I believed there was more important news developing inside and outside the United States. But maybe I was wrong; maybe Britney is important news. Bear with me for un minuto:

Perhaps American societies' fascination with the destruction of celebrities reflects something larger about our culture. We adore self-destructive men and women so much that tabloid and gossip magazines, which specialize in celebrity catastrophes, can be easily found in any supermarket, snuggled next to packs of gum, Readers Digests and TV Guides.

Looking beyond the silly headlines these 'zines' produce, I wonder what lies behind our fascination with stories of self-destruction. Why do people want to read about OJ Simpson's latest escapades, or Britney Spears' custody battle, or Keifer Sutherland's latest trouble with Johnny Law?

Perhaps it is because people enjoy watching other people suffer. Or perhaps it is that these stories externalize the reader's suffering.

No matter what the reason, one thing can be determined: we are all obsessed with destruction. The news is full of such stories. Global warming is destroying our planet; NAFTA (according to Democrats) is destroying parts of our American economy; immigrants (according to Republicans) are destroying America; gay marriage (according to many in both parties) is destroying the sanctity of heterosexual marriage. The list could go on and on.

ritney Spears has reportedly been receiving disturbing letters and packages from a stalker.

The troubled singer is said to have been so concerned by the mail, which included a letter detailing how to make bombs and another containing "threatening language and weird gibberish", she has handed all correspondence over to the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation).

A source close to the singer told E! Online: "A lot of the things she was receiving were disturbing stalker kind of stuff. So, to be safe, her security team is turning it all over to the police and FBI."

While insiders claim the mail had been sent to various locations associated with mother-of-two Britney, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Ana Aguirre said no specific investigation had been launched yet.

She added: "We have been looking at allegations that have cropped up in the past couple of months."

An FBI spokesperson also refused to comment on the allegations.

Meanwhile, Britney is paying her dad Jamie US$2500 ($2688) for every week he looks after her.

Jamie - whose co-conservatorship over his 26-year-old daughter was extended until July 31 - was also given the authority to use Britney’s funds to hire a car for her security team.

Britney is believed to be "doing well" following a turbulent few months during which she was hospitalised.

If she continues to improve Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz may consider dissolving the conservatorship before the scheduled July 31 end date.

A source said: "Is it possible she might make significant enough progress to get her life back in three or four months? Yes, and her dad would like nothing more than for that to happen."

On January 3rd Brit-Brit lost custody of her children when she was rushed to the hospital after suffering from a mental breakdown. Since then, her father has had complete control over the pop tart's life, as ruled by a judge.

But perhaps one of the reasons why Britney's father has been successful in getting custody back is because of his great relationship with Spears' ex husband Kevin Federline.

Kevin and Jamie were seen golfing together this weekend, sparking media attention and leading many to wonder whether Brit knew about their get together.

There's no doubt that, whether the singer was aware of her father's rendezvous with Federline or not, Jamie is only trying to help his daughter get her life back on track.

If spending some quality time with K-Fed is what he needs to ensure her ex that she's capable of raising her children, then more power to him.

Troubled Britney Spears is refusing to attend her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears’ wedding - as payback for the way she announced her shock teen pregnancy last year, it has been claimed.

Jamie Lynn - along with her mom, Lynne - announced the pregnancy late last year, in US magazine Star, in a deal widely reported to have been worth at least $1m.

Jamie Lynn, 16, is reportedly planning to marry her longterm beau Casey Aldridge before her baby is born in June.

Sources say Jamie Lynn asked Britney to be the maid of honor at her ceremony - but the Toxic star shot her down, telling her “hell would freeze over” before she would attend the wedding.

“When Jamie Lynn asked her, Britney laughed sarcastically down the phone. She told her hell would freeze over before she’d stand as her maid of honor then hung up on her,” said a source close to the Spears family.

Britney was furious that she found out about her sister’s pregnancy via the press - and was devastated that she was amongst the last to know.

Adds the source: “Britney had it out with her sister at the time, she’s been simmering with resentment ever since.

“She believes that Jamie Lynn has broken the bond the two have always shared - and is using Britney’s fame to make money.

“Britney told a pal: ‘I’m devastated. Jamie Lynn’s stabbed me in the back. I’ll never trust her again. She’ll regret doing this to me.’

“Now [by not attending Jamie’s wedding] she has found the perfect way to hit back.”

Zoey 101 star Jamie is said to be devastated by her older sister’s behavior - and had hoped the troubled singer had forgiven her, but, according to sources, it’ll take a long time for Britney to get over the way her younger sister had treated her.

“All she wants to do is live off my fame,” Britney reportedly confided to a close pal. “She just wants her famous sister at her wedding to show off to her friends. She doesn’t care about me.”

Jamie Lynn has been left in tears over her sister’s decision not to attend her big day, but friends are hoping Britney will change her mind.

Meanwhile, a court ruled earlier this week that Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears, can pay himself $2,500 a month from the singer’s bank accounts.

Jamie, who has been handling the Toxic singer’s affairs since a court ruled he should be a co-conservator, will be able to pay himself the money every month.

A judge has also agreed that Britney should pay for a car ‘of an appropriate size’ and has given the go-head for her dad to lease a vehicle.

Documents released by the court also reveal that the conservatorship - Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallet - to pay a $5,000 retainer to one of Britney’s doctors Stephen Marmer MD and Britney’s court appointed attorney his fee of $58,800.

The papers read: “The temporary conservators have the power to lease one vehicle of an appropriate size.

“Mr Spears is to receive compensation of $2,500 per week on accounting beginning 3/3/08 without prejudice.

“Mr Ingham to receive compensation of $58,800 on account, without prejudice.

“It is so ordered.”

It appears that Britney Spears has a stalker. We're talking a few love letters, this one is so bad that the "Toxic" singer has turned it over to the Los Angeles Police Department.

E! News is reporting that Britney has received several disturbing letters and packages, including at least one letter mentioning "how to bomb" and others containing threatening language and "weird gibberish."

"A lot of it was disturbing stalker kind of stuff," the source told E! "But to be safe her security team is turning it all over to the police and FBI."

According to a source inside the Spears camp, they family is so scared that they plan to hand everything over to the cops.

An LAPD spokesperson says no investigation has been launched yet, but authorities "have been looking at allegations that have cropped up in the past couple of months."

The show opened with a short film showing the young Alicia Keys at church being commanded by her preacher to go unto the world and sing. The tone was semi-comic, but the message was overweening: rejoice, for a divine talent has been sent among us.

My heart sank further as the soul singer appeared sitting behind a grand piano playing a splashy keyboard routine. The 27-year-old rarely misses an opportunity to remind us that she's a classically trained pianist, as if we should fall to our knees and marvel at her ability to string a few chords together. It's pop's equivalent of the cultural cringe.

The air of smugness never entirely disappeared - Keys had a habit of chuckling to herself while making pointless remarks such as, "No one can take me away from my piano" - but her show, contrary to initial expectations, turned out to be terrifically entertaining.

Leaping from the piano to join a troupe of dancers, she opened with "Ghetto Story", a pounding R&B number about her hardscrabble upbringing in Hell's Kitchen in New York. The song's steeliness suggested that whatever hand God might have had in her success, strength of will has certainly played a part.

The theme of the evening was her life story, as outlined in her latest album As I Am , which has confirmed her status as one of the US's biggest stars by selling more than 3m copies.

Outbreaks of schmaltz periodically threatened the set, such as when pictures of plucky Africans illustrated a piano-led weepy about survival. Yet even her mushiest songs were purposeful, propelled by an inner drive that kept the schmaltz under control.

Her singing was spectacular. There was no hint of the laryngitis that forced her to cancel the opening dates of her tour in the supple jazzy phrasings of "You Don't Know My Name" or the power chords of "Superwoman". A series of songs performed alone at the piano underlined the range of her vocals, which rang out note-perfect within an arena holding some 20,000 people. Other tracks had deft hints of jazz and rock amid references to classic soul and R&B. My misgivings about Keys' self-regard were overtaken by admiration for her flair.

Coldplay has announced its first show of 2008 at Japan's Summer Sonic festival, to be held August 9th in Tokyo and the following day in Osaka. The group will join the Verve, the Sex Pistols, the Prodigy, Alicia Keys and Fatboy Slim, among many others.

Coldplay is putting the finishing touches on its next album, expected in June. Among the tracks in contention to make the final cut are "Yes," "Violet Hill," "Chinese Sleep Chant" and "Reign of Love."

"I don't know if I feel comfortable…" says Alicia Keys as her three backing singers coax the demure, 26 year-old star into shaking a little booty with them. As they shimmy in their tight, short, silver dresses, the modestly trousered Alicia giggles, rolls her hips and humours them with a few uncommitted Beyoncé-lite moves.

She clearly doesn't enjoy shifting her (or our) focus from her voice to her pelvis and, as the silver trio recede into the dry ice she reiterates:

"That just didn't feel comfortable. It's OK for a 'show'," she says, flicking a little disdain into the word, "but I wanna do something special."

And this is what's wrong with the all-new Alicia Keys tour. It's a show that wants to have its cake and rise above it.

A look at the punters goes some way to explaining why: there are the thirty- to fortysomethings who fell for the street-smart piano ballads of Songs in A Minor back in 2001, and were pleased to have their taste validated when Bob Dylan name-checked Keys on his last album.

And then there are the teenagers in flashing bunny ears who think the current, anthemic single No One is a "bangin toon".

So the audience is, to some extent, divided. And the star is in a transitional career phase, figuring out how much fun and funk to throw into her serious, Roberta Flack-inspired soul. The former prodigy looks like she wants to relax into her talent, but is still wary of frivolity.

The effect on the show of these two factors feels, to borrow Keys's word, uncomfortable.

Her piano slides on and off stage as her "special" moments are segued into the dance routines that are part of the modern, American arena-sized show. Some of Keys's most beautiful songs - A Woman's Worth, Butterflies, even Fallin' - are clipped to suit ringtone-length attention spans.

This sort of thing is fine for the Spice Girls. But with a musician who can really soar, it's frustrating.

Despite the cancellation of earlier dates because of laryngitis, Keys's soulful, slightly Michael Jacksonesque voice sounded on good form. But it was seldom given the opportunity to fly freely as the songs were ticked off and the costumes changed.

Despite its silly lyrics ("Even when I'm a mess/ I still put on my vest/ With an 'S' on my chest") Superwoman emerged as one of the few movingly heroic moments of the night - stripped down and simple.

And as the electro-arpeggios of No One brought the evening to a suddenly euphoric close, those bunny ears flashed away. But I'd have preferred to hear half the songs, played all the way through. Just Keys and her piano, feeling comfortable.

March 6, 2008 (Sawf News) - Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt have moved into a ranch near Smithville in Texas. The couple is expected to camp there, away from prying eyes, till the birth of their second biological child, the first Jolie-Pitt to be born on US soil.

The small sleepy town of Smithville is around 29 miles southeast of Austin, where Brad is on the set of his next film Tree of Life being directed by Terrence Malick.

Production of the film, that also stars Sean Penn, is expected to take around three months. When it ends in early June, Jolie, who is believed to be 5-6 months pregnant, will be in the final stages of her pregnancy.

The couple, concerned about their privacy, opted to stay away from Austin. Staying on a sprawling 270 acre ranch has its advantages one of them being that you are away from a road, making it impossible for paparazzi to pry even using powerful telephoto lenses.

"They are concerned about people being able to see their home, or even their driveway, from the road," a source told OK!

Besides, Texan distaste for trespassers is well known. Photogs used to the liberal laws of LA could find the going tough in Texas.

Lindsay Lohan and close friend Courtenay Semel have reportedly ended their house-sharing arrangement after just over three months.

The two women are said to have moved in together late last year after Lindsay left rehab at the Cirque Lodge because they thought that sober Courtenay would be a good influence on the Mean Girls actress.

However a source has now told In Touch Weekly that while the two remain close, “they just can’t live together.”

Lindsay Lohan has insisted that her life and career is heading back in the right direction.

The 21-year-old actress-singer said that the multiple car accidents and stints in rehab in the past few years have put her life back into perspective.

"My life was distracted by certain things and that got in the way of work," she told People.com

"But now, I'm back on track and figuring out what's next."

The starlet recently sparked controversy by appearing nude in a photo shoot for New York Magazine, where she emulated Marilyn Monroe, but her next role should be less scandalous - Lindsay is getting ready to shoot the comedy Ye Olde Times with Jack Black and David Arquette.

And it looks like work on her album, which sees her collaborating with Ne-Yo, is progressing well.

"I'm recording right now with Motown and being in the studio again has been really great," Li-Lo added.

Avril Lavigne opened Wednesday night's show with Girlfriend, a big hit from her third album, The Best Damn Thing.

VICTORIA - Say a prayer for all the brothers, boyfriends, and fathers in the audience Wednesday night because the Avril Lavigne concert was one for the girls.

Me not being one shouldn't have been a problem. For the most part, I like Lavigne's music and have taken it upon myself to argue the point repeatedly to the non-fans who will listen.

But Wednesday night wasn't an occasion I would go on the record for with unwavering support.

Granted, it was the opening night of her world tour - which includes 15 dates in Canada - but the so-billed Best Damn Tour wasn't even the Somewhat OK Damn Tour; it was just plain disappointing. And with tickets in the range of $60, the 75-minute concert clocked in just shy of one dollar per minute. Methinks some parents are feeling the sting right about now.

Here's a blow-by-blow account.

8:35 p.m. The lights go dark. Collective pulses quicken. For some reason, I can almost read a book it's so bright. Must be the copious amount of glo-sticks being waved. Note to self: Get into the glo-stick biz pronto.

8:37 p.m. Lavigne dives into Girlfriend, the big hit from her third album, Best Damn Thing. There are six dancers on stage waving flags, when out comes Avril. I'm blinded by her glitter wear. The tune is a little weak, but that's the case with the first song of most concerts.

8:41 p.m. During the song I Can Do Better, the pint-sized Lavigne, 23, utters her first four-letter word of the night. We expect more to be forthcoming. Avril and her dancers are marching continuously - is there a military theme to her music we were unaware of?

8:45 p.m. "You guys are great," Lavigne says. "I love you." Complicated arrives soon after the lovefest, and she sings the first verse sitting down. Which is fine, because she gets a major lift from the crowd of mostly pre-teen girls. Her voice isn't yet in top form, but you can't fault her energy.

8:49 p.m. My Happy Ending is one of her best songs, and Lavigne delivers here, strapped to a pink guitar (which matches the streaks in her hair) that is almost as big as her. She appears more comfortable now, and the song is all the better for it.

9:02 p.m. An oddly timed musical interlude is meant to satiate fans while Avril undergoes a costume change and her crew resets the stage. For some reason her bandmates (who aren't mind-blowing) break out a Linkin Park cover, which prompts six breakdancers to bust a move. Huh?

9:04 p.m. Once a newly attired Lavigne returns, we quickly forget the Linkin Park and what felt like the longest two minutes ever. Production-wise, this is Lavigne's biggest tour to date, and her crew scurries about all show long. Sadly, something goes wrong with her pink piano, which was to begin her four-song acoustic set. A technical glitch scuttles that.

9:09 p.m. A bandmate chimes in on electric piano during When You're Gone, as her piano gets whisked aside. It throws Lavigne for a loop, from which she has trouble recovering.

9:14 p.m. Backed by a video that features her in full Pussycat Doll regalia, Lavigne gets really into it for Hot, a song written for her husband, Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 fame. He's in the house tonight, having flown here direct from England, but he's nowhere to be seen. Still, it's one of her better performances on this night.

9:19 p.m. Time for another costume change. Lavigne heads off, and we are treated to a new song, her pre-recorded cover of Joan Jett's Bad Reputation. Strangely, it is unannounced and set to clips from her old videos. The song is kicking, but people seem confused because they've never heard it before.

9:26 p.m. "Hey, what's this?" she asks. It's a drum kit - a pink one - and we're guessing she's going to play it. Lavigne does so, not terribly well, while singing Runaway. "I think you all should know this, so if you do, sing along," she says, shortly before delivering Mickey, an '80s pop hit from Toni Basil. Not surprisingly, no one in the crowd is old enough to know it.

9:29 p.m. The title track to The Best Damn Thing is beset by a cheerleader routine from her dancers, who awkwardly spell A-V-R-I-L in large letters. We've got one word for that: T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E.

9:38 p.m. The latter part of the set is redeemed somewhat by He Wasn't, one of her better pop-rock tunes. She's playing a silver sparkle guitar now, and causes oohs and ahhs when she disappears into the floor to close the set.

9:43 p.m. It's encore time, and everyone knows her first hit, Sk8er Boi, is on deck. But instead, she starts rapping (!) on a remix of Girlfriend, which she already played earlier. She's a good sport, but it looks like even Lavigne knows it was half-hearted.

9:50 p.m. Sk8er Boi finishes the set, and within 30 seconds the house lights are up. Is it me, or does a rate of two-minutes per song feel somewhat rushed? Call me crazy. Everyone leaves happy, except for yours truly.

Angelina Jolie isn't afraid of Jennifer Aniston, really, she's not just ask her brother. She would have gladly faced the music against Jennifer during the big showdown weekend but she just feels so sorry for Jennifer. So sayeth her brother James Haven. As usual he is speaking out and trying to defend his sister and he probably makes things worse for Jolie.
He says Angie is sensitive and respectful of other women's feelings in an interview with Grazia magazine. Unless of course she is hooking up with them on a movie set, which she has been accused of with her now boyfriend Brad Pitt, her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton, and on and on.
Most wondered what happened to the brave face of Angelina on the Saturday night before the Oscars. Her tabloid friends had reported that "Brangelina insiders" were touting that she was looking forward to confronting Aniston and being the talk of the party. Instead she she didn't attend at all.

All were listed on the invitations to attend the gala that is for charity and raised $6 million. Only Jennifer would show up, looking fabulous in a little black dress. Haven's spin aside, Jolie certainly seemed like she wanted to avoid any confrontation. Most entertainment observers believe Jolie was just too afraid to face Aniston and have whispers of hime wrecker going on behund her back at the party. That explanation sounds a bit more plausible than James Haven's spin.

Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony welcomed twins early Friday morning, a son and a daughter.

After multiple false alarms over the past few weeks, set off by extra security, over-eager tipsters, etc., the babies were born at a Long Island hospital, J.Lo's publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, told E! News.

"The family is doing well," said Zelnik, who did not know if Lopez and Anthony had named the babies yet.

"If they have, they're not disclosing them—good for them," the publicist said.

The girl arrived at 12:12 a.m., checking in at 5 pounds, 7 ounces, and the boy followed at 12:23 a.m., tipping the scale at 6 pounds, according to People, which first reported the births and has offered upwards of $6 million for the exclusive photo rights to the tots, per Advertisting Age.

These are the couple's first children together. Anthony also has two sons and one daughter from two previous relationships.

A source close to the singer-actress told E! News that, prior to giving birth, Lopez was telling people she plans to take up to a year off from work for mommy duty. "She's been waiting for this moment for years," the insider said.

Lopez, 38, finally spilled the beans about her expectant status in November, months after the rumors that she was pregnant began swirling.

"We didn't want to say anything before because we didn't want to take away from the tour, but we're expecting," she told the audience at the final concert on her joint tour with Anthony.

Not that she was under the illusion that people thought her swelling figure was due to anything other than baby weight.

In an interview in February's Harper's Bazaar, Lopez said she felt like the world already knew she was pregnant long before her announcement, given that she was "on tour with a bubble gut!"

However, she said her choice to try and keep the pregnancy private for as long as possible was important to her.

"I do realize people want to know because they're interested, but this is the first time I'm going through this," Lopez told the magazine. "This is my experience and my husband's experience, and we get to hold that for a little while."

The couple, who tied the knot in June 2004, celebrated their impending parenthood last month with a baby shower in New York.

McGraw Disliked 'Disrespectful' Crotch-Grabbing Fan

Country singer Tim McGraw has hit out at the female fan who grabbed his crotch onstage this summer as "disrespectful."

McGraw was performing alongside his wife Faith Hill on their Soul2Soul tour in Lafayette, La., in July, when one excited devotee reached out to grab his manhood.

A video of Hill reprimanding the fan then appeared on YouTube, with the singer saying, "Somebody needs to teach you some class, my friend. You don't go grabbing somebody else's, somebody's husband's [bleep], you understand me?"

And McGraw agrees with his wife.

He tells "Extra," "I just kind of thought it was disrespectful, not only to me and to my wife but to herself."

McGraw has asked other feisty female followers to not reach for his crotch.

He adds, "Don't do that."

This season, NFL viewers have an extra dose of Faith. Waiting All Day for Sunday Night is performed by Faith Hill at the start of each NBC "Sunday Night Football" telecast on the 2007 schedule. Set to the Joan Jett tune I Hate Myself for Loving You, the song is tailored to the two teams playing on the given Sunday; on October 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Denver Broncos in Colorado.

Five-time Grammy winner Hill says NBC and NFL executives "just called and asked if I'd be interested in being the voice for the song, and I was blown away. It's a big deal.

"I can remember, as a child, hearing the music that would introduce the NBC news. I knew that would be the time I had to finish my homework and dinner would be ready. That is just embedded in my brain, and it's similar with the NFL situation. They play the song throughout the entire game, in the background or going to a commercial."

One sign of football's status as a Sunday tradition, Hill notes, is that "people are always rushing home from church to catch the game if you're Catholic, you're lucky - you can go during the day or at night. My mom struggled; it was like, 'I've gotta make it home for the (New Orleans) Saints game!' but she never wavered. She always went to church first."

Hill is no stranger to doing certain songs countless times, as with Breathe and This Kiss, both included on her new CD The Hits (along with her latest single, Red Umbrella). She explains that for the football theme, overseen by her longtime producer Byron Gallimore, "I recorded several different versions because there's the opening night, there's the wild card, etc. Mostly, though, I would just insert each week's game after I had completed the overall song."

With her devotion to New Orleans' post-Hurricane Katrina recovery, Hill admits to a special thrill in singing the Saints' name.

"Hopefully, I'll be able to go back in and sing Tennessee Titans, " she says of her favourite team, which could wind up on 'SNF' through the network's flexible schedule. "Maybe the season will change and they'll be added to the list somehow. I've already asked the NFL and NBC about it."

Hill and her husband, fellow country superstar Tim McGraw, share a passion for football. It's part of a home life that includes their three daughters, three big reasons she says the couple's second, recently ended 'Soul2Soul' concert tour was their last.
